About

I'm Jess, and this small business thing is probably going to kill me sooner rather than later.

See, when I moved CHI to ATL with my boyfriend, dog, and guinea pig at the end of 2017, I left behind a normal human's dream job and decided I wasn't going back. Having worked in as a cellular biologist and laboratory manager for 6 years at a super swanky genomics institution, I was slowly losing all motivation to keep trying at life. Though financially satiating, my position was less than fulfilling. Now, with that pesky salary and full benefits left behind, I'm finally taking a swing at what I've always wanted to do. Who needs income or health insurance, anyways?

These days my time is spent scouting and rescuing vintage furniture and home goods, before hauling that shit back home via my SO's borrowed arm strength. When my brain (and house) has its fill of furniture, I delve into smaller projects, such as canvas print series and humorous satires of "basic bitch" signs. With the help of my constant companion and right hand dog, Jake, I sit alone in a basement painting my heart out and fawning over each detail in tedium... in between running social media accounts, bookkeeping, updating sites, blogging, and also to pay my bills with my "real job" of writing online.

I'm still trying to figure out self-promotion and employment with varying levels of success and crippling anxiety, but the sense of fulfillment I attain from each and every finished piece is more satisfying than any *fancy* single job or sense of financial stability. Every day feels like endlessly fighting against raging rip tides, internally and externally, but I'll go down with the ship if it comes to it. Let's see where this adventure goes!

FAQ

What's up with your weird styles and subject matter?

Fair. I'm influenced by everything from traditional and mid-century design to biomedical research to punk rock. I try not to limit the scope of my pieces, instead letting each item choose its own adventure.
Regarding biomedicine; I worked in cellular biology research for 6 years, eventually feeling increasingly dissatisfied, disenchanted, and angst-ridden with each passing day. While a salaried position and benefits were great, the fluorescent lighting and continual teeth grinding that came with my position were not. Still, my biological education and work experience left a lasting interest in all things physiological, cellular, and anatomical.
Talking rock and roll: I spent my adolescence in the Chicago punk scene, hopping the Metro to the north side with groups of dirty boys, learning to drink in alleyways, and getting the back of my head punched while jumping around in GA. I never let go of these formative days, but my punk roots were certainly dimmed during my day job. These days? Fuck it. I'm bringing them back. Hands up, Fists high.
What are you using?

I work mainly in chalk paint, wood stain, vinyl decals, and acrylic gloss. I'm currently delving into apartment gardening, AKA authentic Stone Mountain moss and rock gardens.

Is it really "one of a kind?"

Hell yeah. You think I have the patience to remake these tedious fuckers multiple times? No way. I'm not a factory cranking out identical products for profit, I'm a lonely girl trying to find meaning in life. One and done! I'll gladly revisit my old designs.  but the application medium will differ and the end product will never be identical.

What are your methods?

I specialize in chalk paint and lightly distressed vibes. I look for old pieces with unique details and character that simply need a makeover to bring them new life. While choosing color schemes and antiquing details I consider the individuality of the piece and let it guide the refurbishment process, bringing out the special details of each and every item.

Do you deliver?

Time to break out my sweet 2004 minivan. Yes! Depending on the size of the item, delivery can be arranged for a fee. Cost is determined by the amount of muscle required and distance to the final destination.

Can you ship large pieces?

I'm still working on the process of freight shipping, it's a whole new world. If you're patient, adventurous, and flexible on shipping/handling costs, we can figure it out together.

Will you refurbish my furniture?

Absolutely! Send me an email at timestamprenegade@gmail.com and we'll discuss your project. I'll take  pictures of your item(s), design visions, and any other information you want to provide! We'll discuss your piece's potential and I'll issue a quote for the completed project.

Where do you get your raw pieces?

I frequent antique stores, flea markets, craigslist, and curb sides in the search for new inspiration and materials. I scoop up pieces that are begging for a new beginning. I sometimes work with brand new pieces for my smaller prints, decor, knickknack, and stationary creations.

Your gallery is large, but inventory is small... what's up?

Due to the space required for furniture painting, I try to move pieces as quickly as possible to make room for more projects. My items sell out quickly, so I have a limited stock on hand at one time. If you have something in mind that isn't currently available, just shoot me a message to arrange a custom order!
